Warm-Up: Tuesday, November 25 PAGE 281 Objective: To analyze possible motifs in both novels. Question: What are some repeated symbols, or motifs, in either novel?

Lit Circle Discussions (Page 282) Instructions: Answer the following questions on page 282 in short paragraphs. (4-6 sentences) Take 15 minutes to complete this. Discussion Questions: How do the characters react and deal with authority figures in their lives? (Teachers, Co-Workers, Student Peers, and/or Parents) How do the character’s identities (racial and class distinctions) affect their personal relationships with other characters?

Note-Taking on Lit. Circles While you all do your lit circles for today, take notes of the discussion on page 282.

Literature Circles, Part I Discussion Director: Discuss the two focus questions. Review your three vocabulary words. Have other group members copy down the words and definitions on their vocabulary list. (8 Minutes)

Literature Circles, Part II Summarizer: Read your summary to your group. As a group, decide upon which three events to include in the storyboard. (5 Minutes)

Literature Circles, Part III Investigator: Share your character profile for the protagonist. As a group, decide upon which three details belong on the character profile. (5 Minutes)

Literature Circles, Part IV Connector: Share passages from “A. Passages on author’s style.” As a group, decide on which three literary devices should go on the Author Style Page. (5 Minutes)

Literature Circles, Part V Connector: Share your theme chart with your group. As a group, decide on which three themes should be added to the theme page. (5 Minutes)

Literature Circles, Part VI Discussion Director: Fill out the Group Record Sheet, with input from every group member. (5 Minutes) Mr. Zhao will collect this today; this is your exit slip.
