November 18, 2013 Once you’re in, you’re in November 18, 2013 Once you’re in, you’re in. When the bell rings, electronics and headphones away working on the DO NOW. HAVE OUT ON YOUR DESK YOUR VOCAB HW. TURN IN ANY LATE STEM PROJECT ASSIGNMENTS AND ANY LATE HW. DO NOW: Have out your lab pre-work, something to write with, and your solubility notes. Everything else (including food and drink) need to be under the apron hooks. If you finished your lab pre-work be prepared for it to be check. If you have not it must be complete to start the lab. Start that now.

Colligative Properties of Solutions Colligative properties are properties that depend only on the number of solute particles in solution and not on the nature of the solute particles. Vapor Pressure Lowering Boiling Point Elevation Freezing Point Depression Osmotic Pressure

FOLDABLE 4 squares Colligative Properties Vapor Pressure Lowering Vapor Pressure Lowering is due to the number of solute particles in solution The greater the number of solute particles in a solvent, the lower the resulting vapor pressure. Boiling Point Elevation Temperature difference between as solution’s boiling point and a pure solvent’s boiling point The greater the number of solute particles in the solution, the greater the boiling point elevation.

Colligative Properties Freezing Point Depression The difference in temperature between its freezing point and the freezing point of its pure solvent. The freezing point of a solution is always lower than that of a pure solvent. Depends on the number of solute particles in a given volume of solution. Osmotic Pressure Amount of additional pressure caused by the water molecules that moved into the solution. Depends on the number of solute particles in a given volume of solution.
