Metric System Basics

Why do we use it? Universal measurement Burma, Liberia, and US

Length Length: the distance between two points Tool: ruler or meter stick Units of measurement: Kilometer (km) Meter (m) Centimeter (cm) Millimeter (mm)

Mass Mass: the amount of matter in an object Tool: Triple Beam Balance or Scale Units of measurement: Kilogram (kg) Gram (g) Milligram (mg)

Volume Volume: the amount of space an object takes up Tools: ruler or water method Units of measurement: Liters (L) Millileters (mL) Cubic meters (m3)

Density Density: how compact an object is Tool and units of measurement:

You’ve seen what we use but now it’s time to put it to use.

Station Time! There are three different stations you will need to hit with your group (yes… I have once again picked your groups for you). You will have 5 minutes at each station. Do not move until the five minutes is up so you don’t disturb the other groups who may be finishing.
