Primary goal of education should not be the growth of human capital Presented By: Nouf almutlaq

Introduction: Education is not just a source of knowledge and understanding Improvised as a way of investment in the economic growth and development of a nation Growth in human capital with unique skills and up to date knowledge This is not the way education must be perceived in our society Negative effects in the society due to this perception

According to article 1 Human capital and economic growth: Time series evidence from Greece. Journal of Policy Modeling, 481-489. Question 1 What is the relation between education and human capital growth, and how do they both affect the economic development of the nation? There exists a co-integrating relationship between the primary, secondary and higher education and the GDP per capita A study in Greece revealed the relationship between the human capital and economic growth while keeping the basic mechanism of educational impact on human skills which in turn results in economic growth

Cont’d: Making education just a tool for growth of human capital is a debate which needs attention

Focus has been shifted to the need of quality schooling According to article 2 Economic growth in developing countries: The role of human capital. Economics of Education Review, 204-212. Question 2 How can the investment in the education sector affect the economic growth of developing countries as compared to developed ones? In the recent years the education has been closely attached with the growth of human capital Focus has been shifted to the need of quality schooling Instead of filling the gap developing countries are lagging behind

Cont’d: They are unable to maintain the quality of schooling according to the developed countries Increased pressure on developing countries where it has also affected the importance of cognitive skills.

According to article 3 Human Capital Theory: Implications for Educational Development . Pakistan Journal of social sciences, 479-483. Question 3 Even if relationship between education and human capital growth is positive, how come it affects the future of the children and community as well? Is it important to maintain the quality of education for human capital? Quality education and standards must be maintained in education sector so that this instrumental education can serve as the factor of increasing production in a nation This is not thought of as a noble deed to invest in the educational sector just for the sake of economic purposes.

Cont’d: Children are forced to adopt the subjects based on their worth in the human capital market Without realizing their potential and aptitude, parents force them to do so

Conclusion: Making growth of human capital the primary goal of the education is not fair Not only spoils the future of the children by making them adopt the subjects that are against their aptitude Does not leave a very good impact on the society Quality of education and skills must be taken in to consideration but this is not the primary goal of achieving the nation’s economic development.

Any question?
