Journal heading At the top of your paper, you need: Your name The date Class/Block Assignment Title (For today, it’s “The Working Poor Assignment”)

Day in the Life of the Working Poor The novel we are reading focuses on characters who live at the poverty level. In order to gain a deeper understanding of their experiences, we need to understand the challenges and frustrations presented by poverty. You will be given a situation that forces you to deal with the same issues a destitute person faces in contemporary society. Directions: You will work with a partner for part of the class period to develop a plan for dealing with this average day in the life of someone living on the edge of poverty. Together, you and your partner will write a detailed plan for how your family will solve the problem it is presented.

Day in the Life of the Working Poor With a partner or by yourself, read through the scenario outlined in Part 1. Afterwards, read through the problem you’re facing. Then, complete Part 1 and Part 2 on your paper. Part 1 asks you to decide how you’re going to use your limited budget to solve your problem, and Part 2 asks you to justify your choices in a quick write. Make sure if you work with a partner that you both write Part 1 on your own piece of paper.

TKAM: Chapter 7 study questions For the rest of class, you can begin on your homework: Read Chapter 7 individually or with a partner Complete the Chapter 7 Study Questions on your own.
