Using data innovations to improve Rapid Research Using data innovations to improve

Not a scientific or mathematic law, just a really keen and accurate observation. 1965 – Gordon Moore, a computer chip designer The # of transistors one could fit on a chip would double every 18 months or so (double in speed) Moore’s Law

Big Data Loosely defined term ~ no one measure of what is “big” Data sets so large or complex, traditional techniques don’t apply. Type of data can vary, more varied (qualitative measures instead of raw numbers) Big Data

Varied types of data Data.gov Google maps: maps.google.com Live traffic What data could we use? Any inferences / assumptions? Review  Selfiecity.net (using images) Varied types of data

Medical innovations – video

With great power comes great responsibility Data breaches can cause chaos – economic, social, political, even environmental damage. What breaches do you remember hearing about on the news? Why would a leaked /hacked database cause problems? With great power comes great responsibility
