Glazing Not painting!

What is glaze? Glaze is made up of Silica which melts to form glass, Alumina which keeps the glass from flowing too much, and a Flux which allows the silica to melt at lower temperatures. The proportion of these ingredients, plus colorants and firing of the kiln affect the color and opacity of the glaze.

Glaze Steps Prepare Application Clean Bottom Clean up Record glaze names on sketch Shake or stir glaze (glazes will stain) Don’t pour more than you need into a dish $$$ Application Don’t mix or overlap glazes Brush 2-3 coats evenly (let dry between coats) Clean finish at base and between glazes Clean Bottom Use a sponge to clean ANY glaze from the bottom Glaze on bottom = will NOT be fired Clean up Wash brushes and return to closet; store bristles UP Wash glaze off dishes and bottles Return glazes to correct shelf
