The Rockets!!!!! October 15, 2014 BY Thaddeus Huffman

The Question What rocket goes the highest in the sky with the same engine ? 1 or 2

Backround I pick this project because I thought would be a fun thing to do with my grandpa before he left for Florida. Also because I could do it over and over again. These 2 rockets will be blasted same day. The first rocket is 2 feet and 6 inches then the mass is 20 oz . The second rocket is 8 inches and the mass of this rocket is 14 oz. both use the same engines.

Hypothesis If I test two different rockets with different size and weight but the same engine , then the smallest rocket will go the highest.

Variables Independent Dependent Constants The size and weight of each rocket. Dependent The height the rockets go Constants The type of engine being used.

Procedure Which rocket goes the highest in the sky. Create the rockets. Collect all the equipment and materials. Put the engine inside the rocket. Place rocket on the launch pad. Launch rocket and start timer. Record data Repeat steps 3,4,5,6 for other rocket.

Data Rockets getting tested Rocket #1 Rocket #2 length of Rocket weight (mass) 68 cm (27 inches) 192 oz 38 cm (15 inches) 165 oz Height of Rocket in the sky measured in seconds 25.6 Seconds 51.8 Seconds

Graph The Rockets height 60 sec 50 sec 40 sec 30 sec 20 sec 10 sec 51.8 seconds 25.6 seconds The first The second Rocket Rocket

conclusion Which Rochet goes the highest. Build to different Rockets with the same firepower and see which one goes the highest. The second rocket went the highest. It was the smallest in mass and it’s length. I was seeing which one would go higher. My data supports my hypothesis. I say that because the smallest rocket has less mass so it would go higher in the sky and that is what I picked it. I have learned that the less mass something has the better it moves or sometimes it is the opposite and the more mass and less length the better it moves. I’ve learned a little more to. A problem that I had was where I did the experiment. The first rocket hit a wire post up in the air on the post. What I would do differently is the timing, I did the experiment real early on a windy day.
