Ms. Helen Oziem Flip Page over… The Basics! Classroom Rules! Hi! My Name is Ms. Helen Oziem! I have a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, a ZS endorsement in Early Childhood, and am certified to teach grades K-5. I graduated from Madonna University on Mother’s Day in 2015. This will be my third year teaching at this amazing school. Some fun facts about me: I love anything coffee and chocolate related, Abraham Lincoln and Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen are my heroes! (and I love talking about them in my classroom!) My favorite color is blue and my favorite animal is the Jellyfish! I can’t wait for us to learn more about each other as the year progresses! Classroom Rules! These rules are set in place to ensure a safe and secure classroom environment. All students are expected be responsible and follow all classroom rules. Listen when others are talking Follow directions quickly Raise your hand for permission to speak Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat Make wise choices Choose to please Jesus! Incentive Charts In our classroom we will be utilizing weekly incentive charts for positive classroom behavior. At the end of each day when the students get out their binders for home, they will also take out their incentive charts. If they had a good day they will get a sticker for that day. If they had a rough day or received a check (see left under consequences), they will not receive a sticker. If they collect so many stickers by the end of the week, they will be able to select a prize from the treasure chest. (I will post the goal of stickers for the week in their weekly newsletter and homework sheet) The sticker chart will be sent home in their binder so you can see everyday if they earned their sticker. If they did not receive a sticker, I will send home a small note explaining why. Consequences I will be utilizing a check system binder for behavior/ discipline in my classroom. This will also be sent to specials classes with the students throughout the day. (1st ) The student will receive a verbal warning and a check. (2nd ) The student will receive a second check and loss of recess minutes. (3rd ) The student receives a third check. There will be a loss of recess, a note send home and/or a phone call home and a demerit issued at my discretion. Flip Page over…
Continued CONTACT ME! Binder Homework! Classroom Website Newsletters You have purchased a 1” binder and pocket folders. They will be used to help your child stay organized. It is your child’s responsibility to bring this back and forth to school each day in his/her backpack. Please take some time to help your child to learn how to pack his/her backpack and put things orderly in his/her binder. The following things will be kept in your child’s binder: a Weekly Homework Sheet, a Weekly Sign Sheet, and three different pockets labeled for notes, checked work and homework. Please sign the Weekly Sign Sheet each day and check over your child’s work. Occasionally, there will be nothing in your child’s binder. Please, still, sign the Weekly Sign Sheet. You will find the following things on the Weekly Homework Sheet: homework, weekly sight words, special classes, due dates and any other important information. This will be in their binder every Monday at the beginning of the week. Homework! Newsletters Starting the Tuesday after Labor Day I will be sending out weekly newsletters. These newsletters will be sent out on Monday, giving any important upcoming events for that week. I am also currently working on my website where you will be able to access the newsletters and homework if they are misplaced. I will send out the website as soon as it’s up and running. Students will receive a homework sheet explaining what will be the homework for that week. This will serve as a guide line of what they will have each day and what is expected of them. They will receive their homework on a Monday and will return their homework the following Monday. I will put a due date at the top of each homework assignment. We will gradually begin homework the Tuesday after Labor Day. Classroom Website As of now our classroom website is still under construction. I hope to have it up by next week. On the site you will be able to access our weekly newsletters, homework (in case it is misplaced), pictures of us in the classroom (I try to make it a goal to post pictures at least once a week), and fun resources for home. I will send out a note with the link when it is up and ready! CONTACT ME! Email: HOziem@ststephennb.education School Phone Number: (734)753-4175
