Proportions Rates Ratios Week of January 5th Proportions Rates Ratios

The Plan Today I will… (Objective): Create and solve proportions. Analyze rules and procedures. Set goals and evaluate my class performance. So that I can… (CC Standard): Use proportional relationships to solve problems.7.RP.A.3 I will know I have it when…(Classwork): I can create and solve proportions independently. In the future I will use this info…(Assessment): To complete a task (TNReady) or solve multiple choice questions (TCAP) with 80% mastery.

Future Assessments A student is making trail mix. Create a graph to determine if the quantities of nuts and fruit are proportional for each serving size listed in the table. If the quantities are proportional, what is the constant of proportionality or unit rate that defines the relationship? Explain how you determined the constant of proportionality and how it relates to both the table and graph. The relationship is proportional. For each of the other serving sizes there are 2 cups of fruit for every 1 cup of nuts (2:1). The constant of proportionality is shown in the first column of the table and by the slope of the line on the graph.

Wrap It Up & Recap What is a ratio? What could a ratio look like? What is a rate? How would you describe a unit rate? Explain the concept of a proportion. Did we complete today’s goal? If so, how? Today’s Goal: I can create and solve proportions. proportion & percent equation. Percent proportion? What is an equation? What is the goal in solving any

Exit Ticket Place sticky notes on the door with your name. Send a Tweet to the next class about what we discussed today by completing any 2 questions! What made learning easy for you today? What made learning difficult for you today? What do you still need to know before we move forward? What do you think our next steps should be? One thing I really liked about today’s class was…. One thing I would like to know more about is…. One thing that could be improved the next time would be… What I found most useful was…. Place sticky notes on the door with your name. Leave index cards on the desk with your name.

Do Now: 06 January 2015 Mrs. Hammond’s husband decided to cook a pot of chili. He went to Kroger and purchased 4 cans of beans for $4.72. If he wants to triple the recipe to make enough chili for the entire family what would be the cost for beans. Solve this problem using a proportion. Over the winter break, Ms. Yates traveled 942 miles in 6 hours. What was the unit rate for her travel experience? F?

Do Now: 07 January 2015 Dr. Danley mixed 3 ounces of sour cream with 2 ounces of salsa to make a dip. She decided to create 20 ounces of the same mixture. How many ounces of salsa does Dr. Danley need for the new dip? F?

Do Now: 08 January 2015 olve For every girl, there are about 4 boys. If there are 30 students in Mrs. Johnson’s class, predict the number of students who are boys. How many students are girls? F?

Do Now: 09 January 2015 Ms. Talley can type 351 words in 3 minutes. At this rate, how many words can she type in 12 minutes?
