DTM Demographic Transition Model – suggests populations pass through 5 different stages as they develop.

The Demographic Transition Model The Demographic Transition Model shows the relationship between birth rates and death rates. It describes how, over a period of time, a sequence of change in population growth rates takes place. The model suggested that there were four (or possibly five) stages through which all countries will eventually pass. The DTM works quite well for countries that have gone from a rural, poorly educated society to an urban, industrial, well educated one. So it fits what has happened in the UK, the rest of Europe, and other HICs. But LICs might not follow the same transition.
