What is Acid Deposition? Another word for “Acid Rain” Mixture of wet and dry deposition from : -atmosphere containing : -higher than normal amounts of nitric and sulfuric acids. When the ph drops below 5 ( normal rain is between 5 and 6)

Chemical Reaction : Formula : - H2SO4 2H+SO4 ² ( HYDROGEN AND SULPHATE IONS) - HNO3 H+ NO 3 – (HYDROGEN AND NITRATE IONS)

Sources : Human activities account for 90% Only 10% for natural phenomenon Main causes : -The use of fossil fuels such as coal - Mineral extraction - The production of electricity in thermal generating stations

Effects : Aquatic Organisms: - Changes the aquatic flora and fauna - Changes in a single species can have repercussions on all the others. Humans: - Can cause irritation of the respiratory tract, which affects the lungs and worsens respiratory illnesses - Ex: Bronchitis and asthma

Conclusion : In general, it’s bad for the environment and for human beings. We need to pay attention what we put in our air. It’s already bad enough with the burning of fossil fuels and natural phenomenon. -Ex: Gas being released from cars and volcanoes erupting.
