Organizational Patterns Chronological Order: Purpose: to explain what happened on the worst day of my life in middle school I. First, I overslept on exam day II. Next, I accidentally wore two different colored shoes III. Then, I realized I had forgotten the notes for the in-class essay IV. Finally, I missed the bus after school

Spatial Order Purpose: to describe a beautiful country home I. Standing in front of the house, people will notice its unusual structure II. Inside the house they can see beautiful furnishings. III. The best feature though is the lovely back yard.

Topical Order Purpose: to discuss the benefits of television viewing I. One benefit of television viewing is relaxation & entertainment II. Another benefit of television viewing is learning III. Finally, viewing television helps people keep up with current events
