Literary Terms Historical Setting – the time and the place Understanding a writer’s life, including his or her attitudes, heritage, and traditions, adds meaning to what we are reading.

Quickwrite (p. 660) Make a list of ten moments in your life that you will always remember. Your list might include events that have historical significance as well as personal importance. Jot down a sentence beside each moment to explain why this moment is memorable.

Activity Choose one of your memorable moments that has historical connection. The historical connection can be to either world, national, or local history. Write an essay in which you identify the sequence of events and why that moment is memorable for you. Make sure to include clear references to the historical event with which your memory is associated. Your essay should have an intro, body, and conclusion. (min. 1 page)
