ENERGY changes Lesson 1

LAW OF CONSERVATION OF ENERGY Energy can change from one form into another, but it cannot be destroyed or created.

Changes between potential to kinetic

The total energy

Calculating Kinetic Energy The kinetic energy of any moving object depends upon its mass and speed.

Calculating Gravitational Potential Energy An object’s gravitational potential energy depends on its mass, its height, and acceleration due to gravity.

PROBLEM 1: Suppose the diver at the top of a 10.0 meter-high diving platform has a mass of 50.0 kilograms. Calculate her potential energy relative to the ground. ? PROBLEM 2: If, instead, the diver was standing on the ground, her height above the ground would be what value? And what would be her gravitational potential energy?
