Day 1 Notes: Draw a pro/con chart and keep track of the benefits and costs of living in this society. Reflection: Do you consider Jonas’s world “advanced”? Why or why not?

Day 2 How does Jonas’s accumulation of memories (and knowledge) make him feel? How do they change his understanding of the society he lives in? Philosopher and statesman Francis Bacon said, “Knowledge is Pain.” Do you agree? Would Jonas? Why or why not? What do Jonas and The Giver decide to do? Do you think they are right? Why or Why not?
