What is a conflict? Conflict refers to the struggle between two opposing forces. There are generally five different types of conflict that can occur in fiction. Most stories draw their tension from one or two of the following conflicts.

Talking About a Resolution The story’s central problem is finally resolved in the resolution, leaving the reader with a sense of completion, although the main character may not feel the same way.
