Celebrity Endorsements Understanding how advertisers use celebrities to sell products to target audiences.

Introduction. Advertisers are always looking for new ways to appeal to their target audience. One method that has been used for a long time is the use of celebrities to sell products. Why do you think this is?

Can you think of any celebrities that have been used to sell products? Write down as many as you can, including the name of the star and the product they sell.

Have a look at the following advertisements. Think about the products being sold and the celebrities who have been paid to sell them. Why choose these celebrities? Write down the celebrity and the product they are selling.

Think about the products you saw. Why were these celebrities used to sell them?

Companies know that they can target certain consumers by using people they look up to. The celebrities may never really use these products, but they can paid LOTS of money to make it look like they do. Beyonce earns a massive $4.7 million with cosmetics giant L'Oreal for only ten days of work a year. (August 21, 2004)

Now, your task is to create your own celebrity-endorsed campaign. Name your product and celebrity and explain why their image would suit your product. You can Sketch a poster showing your celebrity selling your product.
