Astronomy Terms-Copy & define these terms to be placed in flipbook Geocentric model: places the Earth at the center of the universe with the Sun, Moon, stars, and planets circling it. Heliocentric model: This system places the Sun at the center of the Solar System with the Earth and all the other planets orbiting it. Orbit: curved path followed by a satellite as it revolves around an object. Rotation: spinning of an celestial object on its axis; causes night and day Revolution: orbital motion of one body around another in space Big Bang: theory that states that the birth of universe began as a small, dense, intense point full of energy. Law: Idea that has been tested over time (trials); has been universally accepted. Ex. Newton Laws of motion Theory: Based on observation and can be changed; Statements that explain a phenomenon which is commonly regarded as correct
