Presentation transcript:

Plot Summary A film about two homicide detectives' desperate hunt for a serial killer who justifies his crimes as absolution for the world's ignorance of the Seven Deadly Sins. The movie takes us from the tortured remains of one victim to the next as the sociopathic "John Doe" sermonizes to Detectives Sommerset and Mills -- one sin at a time. The sin of Gluttony comes first and the murderer's terrible capacity is graphically demonstrated in the dark and subdued tones characteristic of film noir. The seasoned and cultured but jaded Sommerset researches the Seven Deadly Sins in an effort to understand the killer's modus operandi while the bright but green and impulsive Detective Mills scoffs at his efforts to get inside the mind of a killer... - Written by Mark Fleetwood <mfleetwo@mail.coin.missouri.edu>

Mise en Scene The opening title sequence begins with somebody scraping off the tips of their fingers. They could be preparing to commit a crime and not want the police to have his fingerprints or find this pleasurable. We next see this mysterious character dipping something into water, perhaps a picture that he need to process or it could be a rag that he used to mop up the blood from his fingers because we see something disperse from the rag into the water. We then see a notebook which the character could be making notes of his work or it could be that he is recording the crimes he could be committing as a way of self justification. We can also see him crossing out with a permanent marker something from a book which could be relating to his crimes or something he doesn't agree with that might have effecting him in his childhood. We then see something sticking out of the back of a persons head, it looks like he this mysterious character might of taking the picture of his killing and putting it in a scrapbook as if to again, make a record of his work.

Cinematography All of the shots in the opening title sequence are extreme close-ups of what the character is doing. This is to make the audience curious as to whom this mysterious character is and why they are doing these odd things. They are also used to increase the tension and to further engage the audience, making them want to watch the whole film.

Sound Non-Diegetic sound is used to show what this character might be going through. Things such as high pitch screeches and distorted effects add to how this character might be feeling. All these noises sound like he might be mentally unstable and he is trying really hard not to be ordinary. This can also be shown were the title of the film appears on the screen, its jitters around and the score compliments the feeling it creates.
