Important News: Classroom Class Newsletter May 2- 6 Literacy Math I Book Fair: Class visit to the book fair 11:30-12:00 Field Day: Our class field day is May 3rd 8:20-10:50 Please send your student with a towel, change of clothes (in case of water games) and a healthy snack and water. Coaches gave all students water bottles that they may fill here at school. Fourth grade field trip: to Reinhardt’s Funk Heritage Museum is May 11th. I have one chaperone thus far. If you are interested in chaperoning, please let me know. All forms and monies are due by May 6th. Fourth Grade End of Year Celebration & Awards Day: is scheduled for May 23rd from 12:45-1:45. May 2- 6 Candida.McClairen@Cherokee.k12.ga.us 770-721-5940 Classroom We have finished our space and moon research project and they look great! I can tell that the students took their time working on them. We will be starting our poetry unit next week. This unit will take approximately 2 weeks and we will review the types of figurative language as well as learn the different types of poetry through reading and creating our own poetry. In grammar, we will resume our weekly spelling homework and spelling test will be on Friday. Students will also have a vocabulary test over the figurative language words that we are reviewing. Literacy We will be working on finishing up the ABC Math books this week. Students have various resources to use to complete their ABC book, which include their math journal and vocabulary sites on Edmodo. Students will still be required to do their math spiral review worksheet. However, students will be working on projects in-class, which there will be less grades this quarter. Please encourage your child keep on trying their best until the end of the school year. I have asked them not to “check out on me” since this is the time of school that students feel like that don’t have to prove what they know about all the skills we have learned and apply those concepts. I can encourage students to still use Ten Marks, Front Row, and Edmodo to keep those skills fresh. Thank you so much for your support this school year to make your child successful in my class. Math I In social studies we are learning what our rights are as we explore the Bill of Rights and most importantly why our Founding Fathers chose these rights as a foundation for our new county. We will review the branches of government and then we will continue to move westward exploring alongside Lewis and Clark and then continue to pan for gold alongside the 49er’s during the Gold Rush. We will finish out the year delving into the Industrial Revolution and finally the Abolitionist and Suffrage movement. I have reminded my classes that we may not have any formal tests, but classroom activities will be taken for a grad and that they will need to continue to put forth effort on all assignments.
