Using Personal Protective Equipment Eye Protection must be worn when using the following tools…

Two types of eye protection you can use… Goggles Face Shield

Use ear protection when using… Air Chisel Ear protection

Protecting Your Lungs… If you are replacing brakes or a clutch, you need to wear a particle mask… The brake linings or clutch disc may contain asbestos!

Do’s and Don'ts No open-toed shoes Remove any rings, watches, bracelets or long necklaces before working in the shop Long hair needs to be tied back Coveralls or a shop coat must be worn

Exhaust Gases Carbon Monoxide is… Colorless Odorless When we run a vehicle in our shop, we have to protect ourselves by using the exhaust retraction system How do we turn it on?

Air Guns & Sockets When using the air gun, use the black impact sockets… Not the chrome sockets as they can shatter!

Dangers Under the Hood… Radiator Fans… Electric Belt driven

Hot Engine Parts The following items can cause burns to your hands or face… Radiator cap Coolant is >100° Celsius Coolant is pressurized Don’t remove it unless it’s cold to the touch! Exhaust manifold Exhaust gases are >1000 ° C

Fire Hazards Flammable or combustible items… Gasoline, CNG, Propane Oil Cleaning solvent WD40, paint etc. Shop rags Combustible items must be stored in the flammable liquids cabinet

Gasoline Vapors & Fires Anytime part of the fuel system is disconnected (gas tank, carburetor, fuel pump, fuel injectors etc.), fuel vapors are present. Prevent fires by… Disconnecting the negative battery terminal So sparks won’t ignite the vapors Keep sparks away from the fuel vapors Watch those working around you Have a fire extinguisher nearby
