3 major beliefs Buddhism: Life is full of suffering due to unlimited wants. To find happiness you need to stop wanting things Confucianism-a philosophy based on the teachings of Confucius. One needs to live life by a strict code of rules to better oneself Taoism: You need to keep things simple to find true happiness

The 3 major beliefs

CHINA China was a highly-structured society. The Emperor was at the top, then kings and governors, then state officials and scholars, then peasants, then artisans and merchants, then soldiers, then slaves. This system is called FEUDALISM

Government. They had smart leaders and a strong army! (how they handled nomadic invaders bribes not working =ATTACK) They then gained more territory and unified all the people. They taxed the people as well and made peasants give a month worth of work to build roads/walls for free

Civil Service Jobs However in China the government rewarded people with a civic service job if they scored well on a exam dealing with their “knowledge of Confucianism.” (honesty, justice, respect etc) However sometimes friends would be rewarded jobs and few peasant could afford to educate their sons to pass the test.

What made the Han Dynasty so GREAT? (rise to power) China had many dynasties but one of the greatest on was called the Han around 202 BCE to 220 CE. They created the silk road, built defensive walls, empire compass, papermaking , and many other useful inventions. Strong leaders and army at first

China was very highly populated (even back then) China was very highly populated (even back then). Women were not treated equally to men.

Why did the Han dynasty Fall? 1) Economic imbalance (Rich had lots and poor had nothing ) 2) Gap increased between rich and poor because small farms had to pay taxes whereas larger farms did not 3) when a new inexperienced leader takes over the peasant revolt 4) Wang Mang tries to take over but a great flood happens
