Introduction of energy, including underwater noise Neil Holdsworth 7 JUNE Copenhagen D11 Introduction of energy, including underwater noise

TSG Noise The technical working group has defined a number of standards at a conceptual level These standards are enacted within the systems created/to be created to support D11 at a national and regional level

D11C1 – Impulsive Noise Anthropogenic impulsive sound in water. for D11C1, the duration per calendar year of impulsive sound sources, their distribution within the year and spatially within the assessment area, and whether the threshold values set have been achieved;

D11C1 – Impulsive Noise Registers NE Atlantic (OSPAR) and Baltic (HELCOM) contracting parties using the Noise Register hosted at ICES http://ices.dk/marine-data/data-portals/Pages/underwater-noise.aspx Mediterranean using the ACCOBAMS based register http://accobams.noiseregister.org/ * *note the ACCOBAMS register is a demonstrator and not using real data at this point in time

D11C1 – Noise Registers status ICES Noise register: Operational since feb 2016 Data from 7 countries ACCOBAMS register Demonstrator operational since feb 2017 Data not yet provided

D11C1 – Data Exchange Format Based on TG NOISE recommendation ACCOBAMS has based its initial format on the same, but with fewer of the fields File Header (3 fields) Noise Data (10 + 15 fields) Vocabularies (7 lists) http://ices.dk/marine-data/Documents/NoiseRegistry/NoiseRegister.zip

D11C1 – Vocabularies Using existing controlled lists where available: ISO 3166 Country, SeaDataNet EDMO (Organisation) New vocab lists built on TSG recommendation and RSC’s experts input i.e. Mitigation measures, Source Event Type http://vocab.ices.dk/

Available through OGC WFS (as well as map viewer on portal) Example: D11C1 – Indicator output Available through OGC WFS (as well as map viewer on portal) Example: http://geodata.ices.dk/geoserver/SQL/ows?service=WFS&version=1.0.0&request=GetFeature&typeName=SQL:tblIndicatorPulseBlockDaysPerICESSubSquare&maxFeatures=10000&outputFormat=SHAPE-ZIP

D11C2 – Continuous Noise Anthropogenic continuous low-frequency sound in water. for D11C2, the annual average of the sound level, or other suitable temporal metric agreed at regional or subregional level, per unit area and its spatial distribution within the assessment area, and the extent (%, km2)

Regional activity linked to TSG Noise D11C2 – Continuous noise Regional activity linked to TSG Noise RSC’s have active expert groups working Linked to 3 research projects: AQUOS and SONIC focussing on noise mitigation from shipping BIAS (Baltic) has developed standards on acoustic data sharing and noise measurements https://biasproject.files.wordpress.com/2014/11/datasharingplatform2.pdf https://biasproject.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/bias_standards_v3-2.pdf
