Laboratory Requirements LAB 1: INQUIRY INTO ENZYME ACTIVITY September 12, 2013

FORMAT: PAGE 1 On the first page of your lab workbook, at the top you need your TITLE and the DATE of the lab. On the first page, include your: ABSTRACT-Includes the lab objectives (provided in manual) and the KEY Vocabulary (in manual). INTRODUCTION-Provide your background information in paragraph form (1 will suffice), the purpose of this lab in your own words, and a hypothesis. THE HYPOTHESIS should pertain to a variable that YOU could select to test next week in class. Remember the factors that affect the activity of an enzyme (OTHER THAN pH).

PAGE 1 (continued) 3. On page 1, also include your materials/supplies and procedures. * Procedures are written as steps; You can include one overall list of procedures (for procedure 1). For the procedures for procedure 2 (pH), just mention that the procedure is the same. The only variable that is altered would be the substitution of water in the enzyme test tube by varied pH buffers: pH 3, pH 5, pH 6 and pH 8. NOW turn the page and move on to the next page for the RESULTS/DATA, DISCUSSION and CONCLUSIONS, and any LAB QUESTIONS that may exist.

FORMAT: PAGE 2 2. Include the discussion and conclusions here. 1. Include the results and data here. Include your labeled data table for procedure 1, labeled data table for procedure 2, and a titled/labeled graph. You should include your data from procedure 1 on the same graph as your data for procedure 2. 2. Include the discussion and conclusions here. 3. LAB QUESTIONS: Write down in your lab workbook the questions on page S 159 and answer them. They are found under the DESIGNING and CONDUCTIONG YOUR INVESTIGATION heading.
