About seventy per cent of the surface of the Earth is covered by the oceans and seas.

The Pacific Ocean The largest of all the Earth’s oceans, the Pacific Ocean covers twice as much space as any other ocean, and more space than all the continents put together.

The Atlantic Ocean More than one-fifth of the earth’s surface is covered by the Atlantic Ocean, the second largest ocean in the world. The Atlantic Ocean lies between North America and Europe in the north and Africa and South America in the south. The average depth of the Atlantic Ocean is 3,900 metres. The Indian Ocean The Indian Ocean The Indian Ocean is the third largest of the world's five oceans. Four critically important access waterways are the Suez Canal , Bab el Mandeb, Strait of Hormuz, and Strait of Malacca .

The Arctic Ocean The Arctic Ocean is both much smaller than the other oceans, as well as more shallow. This ocean is connected to the Pacific and Atlantic oceans via small gaps between continents.

The Southern Ocean The Southern Ocean completely surrounds Antarctica. The Southern Ocean, geologically is the youngest of the oceans, formed when Antarctica and South America moved apart.
