Speaker Often compared to the narrator in a story. Not always the person who is presenting the speech
Argumentation The presentation and elaboration of an argument or arguments It can be written and verbal. Must provide logical support
Audience The intended recipients of the work Not always those who are hearing the presentation
Exemplification A perfect example Examples act as supporting material to explain or clarify the generalization. The key to a good exemplification is to use enough detailed and specific examples to get the point across. Examples should be carefully chosen so that they will appeal to audience and help them understand the main point of your presentation.
Persuasion Influence that requires communication Should appeal to the audience’s intellect and emotion
Exposition Writing that is used to explain Adds clarity
Syntax How the author joins sentences, phrases and clauses
Diction Word choice, the language the author uses
