1) Prophase - DNA condenses to form visible chromosomes - The FIRST phase of Mitosis (after interphase) - DNA condenses to form visible chromosomes - Nucleus is starting to dissolve

2) Metaphase - The SECOND phase of Mitosis - Chromosomes line up in the middle (M for middle) - Centromeres are same distance from each side of the cell

3) Anaphase - The THIRD phase of Mitosis - Chromatids (half of the “X”) separate and move away to either side of the cell (A for away) - Spindle fibers pull them apart

4) Telophase - The FINAL phase of Mitosis (before cytokinesis) - New nuclei form around chromosomes - One identical set of chromosomes (DNA) are in each nuclei
