Nets of Solids or Convex Polyhedrons Section 6.2
Learning Goal We will use our knowledge of the characteristics of solids so that we can match a convex polyhedron to its net. We’ll know we’ve got it when we’re able to create a net for a given solid.
Vocabulary Convex Polyhedron Net Nonconvex (or Concave) Polyhedron (Line) Segment
Quick Reminder A polyhedron is a solid formed by polygons. They have edges, vertices and faces. There are two types of polyhedrons: prisms and pyramids.
Convex Polyhedrons Contains all line segments connecting any two vertices (corners) within it Every face of a convex polyhedron can be laid out on a flat surface
Nonconvex (Concave) Polyhedrons Has at least one line segment connecting two vertices (corners) outside it
Nets The net of a polyhedron is the 2-dimensional plane figure we get when the surfaces of the solid are laid out flat (unfolded).
