Problem: How will the mass of the car affect it’s speed?
Independent variable (what I change): mass of car
Control Variables (what stays the same): distance, force, track, car
Dependent variable (what changes as a result): time/speed
Possibilities: The time will increase, meaning the speed has decreased (deceleration) The time will decrease, meaning the speed has increased (acceleration) The time remains the same, meaning the speed remains the same
Hypothesis: If the mass of the car increases, then the speed will decrease.
Procedure:
Data: 1 marble (least mass) 2 marbles (more mass) 3 marbles (most mass) 0.1738 s 0.1858 s 0.2444 s 0.2002 s 0.1941 s 0.2105 s 0.1889 s 0.1922 s 0.2218 s Average: 0.1876 s 0.1907 s 0.2256 s
Conclusion: As mass increased, the speed of the car decreased (it decelerated).
