Wrt 205: critical research Dr. Rusty Bartels Wednesday, March 20th, 2019 Week 9, Day 2

Overview Freewrite Exercise 1: Abstract vs Annotation Exercise 2: Crafting an Annotation Wrap-up

Freewrite What is an Annotated Bibliography? Describe it in your own words. Have you written an annotated bibliography before? What was the context? Purpose? What questions do you have about Annotated Bibliographies currently?

Exercise 1 Groups of 1, 2, or 3 Review the handout/file on the course website One is an abstract, and the other is an annotation. I do not tell you which. In your group: Compare the two paragraphs: how are they similar? How are they different? What information is provided? How is the information different across the two paragraphs? Which one is the abstract, and which one is the annotation? Why?

Exercise 2: Crafting an Annotation In groups of 1, 2, or 3… Review the article and compose an annotation Group Discussion questions: What was this process like for you? What did you have to consider? How did you think about the credibility of the source when composing the annotation?

Wrap-up Today we: Discussed annotated bibliographies Used exercises to get at the form and purpose of an annotation Next time: Reading: none In class: Studio Due: EITHER Primary Research Results OR Annotated Bibliography
