CCR 12 Week 13

Monday: NO School Tuesday: No School

Wednesday Bell Ringer & Agenda: Writing Prompt: Because of a misprint in the newspaper, everyone believes you are a murderer. What did the newspaper say and how do you survive the day, being the most hated person alive? Bell Ringer Project Based Learning Introduction Work in Groups

Project Based Learning: IF you can remember back two weeks… we looked at the first dictionary. What did you notice that was different about it? Why do you think it was this way? Today, I am going to introduce the project you will focus on for the next few weeks.

Slang Dictionary: You will create a dictionary that includes new words, colloquialisms (a word or phrase that is not formal or literary), slang, idioms, and IM and texting lingo. Requirements I set: Each group must include 3-4 people and each person must have a roll Each group must collect ten words Each dictionary must include the following for each word: Definition Etymology (the origin of words and the way in which their meanings have changed) Pronunciation Part of speech Connotation (feeling that a word invokes) Use in a sentence Each group member will participate equally and assess their participation. Final Dictionary will be presented to 7th graders (more on that later)

Dictionary: What you Decide: Do you want to add editorial comments to your dictionary? The audience for the final project Standard Format for each entry Criteria for final rubric Deadlines for parts of project Submission of entries Rough draft of entries Proofreading date

Today: Pick your groups (3-4 people) Give each person a responsibility Look at different websites and study the format of the dictionary entries Then, as a group, create your own template that you want to use As a group, brainstorm & create a rubric for this project Remember to include the requirements that I have listed and explain what an A,B, C, D, & F is Add at least 2 more areas of grading you feel should be required

Thursday Bell Ringer & Agenda: Writing Prompt: Describe an important item from your childhood. Why was it important and where is it now? Bell Ringer Reading Plus

Friday Bell Ringer & Agenda: Bell Ringer: 7 minutes Agenda: Writing Prompt: You receive an unmarked envelope with a check for $5,000,000 inside. It’s a legitimate check, what do you do with it? Do you ever find out who it is from? How does it change your life? Bell Ringer Reading Plus
