APPLICATION The story concludes with the restoration of Nebuchadnezzar to the throne of Babylon. Realizing what had happened to him, he used his restored reason to bless, praise, and honor God. Was Nebuchadnezzar truly converted? It seems so. “The once proud monarch had become a humble child of God: the tyrannical, overbearing ruler, a wise and compassionate king. He who had defied and blaspheme the God of heaven now acknowledge the power of the Most High and earnestly sought to promote the fear of Jehovah and the happiness of His subjects.” (PP.p521)

LESSONS LEARNED 1. the principle that Nebuchadnezzar took a long time to learn is still valid today- that God is in control of the universe and has assigned to each individual a place and a task in His great plan.

For this reason God announced the impending judgment upon Nebuchadnezzar but gave him a full year in which to repent and thus avoid the threatened calamity (See Isa.38:1,2,5; Jer.18:7-10; Jonah 3:1-10)

3. We should never despair about the conversion of anybody 3. We should never despair about the conversion of anybody. Who would have thought that this heathen king would one day be among God’s great witnesses to the world?

4. Daniel 4 graphically reveals the danger of pride 4. Daniel 4 graphically reveals the danger of pride. Nebuchadnezzar may be an extreme example, but pride to a greater or lesser degree resides in all human beings, and it comes in endless forms. It is vital therefore to remember the inspired counsel: “A man’s pride will bring him low, but the humble in spirit will retain honor” (Prov.29:23).

5. As with most of the chapters in Daniel, this one also has special significance for “the time of the end”. Revelation 18:7 tells us that the latter-day Babylon, the final church confederacy, will boast, “I sit as queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow” but, as with Nebuchadnezzar, such bragging is only the prelude to judgment and destruction.
