Art A Tin can lanterns

Agenda Review of last time Prepare work for the show if you didn’t last time Everyone has to have one piece in the show Design your tin can lantern Begin hammering your lantern

Last time We each prepared a piece for the art show today. If you were not here last time or didn’t prepare your piece you will need to do that today. We finished our final self-portraits, filled out the rubrics and reflections and turned them in. If you have not finished them you will need to get them done outside of class and turn them in as soon as possible.

Tin Can Lantern Supplies - Tin can (soup, beans, veggies, etc.) empty and clean. - A nail - A hammer - A towel or rag to rest it on - A design - A marker - Spray paint - A bucket for water - Wire - Metal file

Step 1 Gather your materials and make a design Using grid paper make a design that you want to punch into your can.

Step 2 Tape design to your can Using the hammer and nail punch the can where you want light to show through. It helps to have a rag under your can as support.

Step 3 Using a metal file on the inside of the can file down the edges that are sharp so you do not cut yourself while putting the candle in.

Step 4 Hydro Dipping Fill a bucket with water You will need enough so you can submerge your can completely but not too much where the water overflows.

Step 5 Spray paint the water with multiple colors Using a skewer or stick move the paint around to make a swirl look.

Step 6 Slowly submerge you can into the water through the spray paint Once in move paint out of the way and bring back out Let dry over night.

Calendar Today we will begin our design punching into the can You need to have the design punched out by the end of Wednesday's class We will hydro dip on Friday The Cans will need to dry over the weekend and you can take them home on the 19th.

Studio Time Work on your design for your tin can Look up ideas or make one of your own Draw it onto your grid paper Once you have made your design Tape it to the can Begin punching the holes of your image into the can Be carful you do not cut yourself.
