THE CLOSE

Is the topic clear? Is the angle clear? Is it shocking? Poor Tracy REMEMBER THIS LEAD? Tracy was driving on her way to her birthday party when she heard a loud ring coming from her iPhone. Tracy thought to herself that she only needs to take a quick glance to see who texted her. As she takes her phone, she reads the text: Where you at? And as Tracy begins to type: On My…. She misses her exit and crashes into a tree. Happy Birthday Tracy… Is the topic clear? Is the angle clear? Is it shocking? Poor Tracy

CLOSE LAST PARAGRAPH THAT CLOSES YOUR ARTICLE AND SUGGESTS AN APPROPRIATE OBJECTIVE OR ACTION PLAN. SIMILAR TO RE-HOOK Use a "circle ending." This technique utilizes an idea or a phrase from the lead, bringing the reader around to complete the circle. Suggesting an appropriate course of action. Encouraging a change of attitude or opinion. Now that you wrote all about this topic through this angle, what is society`s or YOUR next move ?

Close example Tracy would have been celebrating her 23rd birthday the day she crashed into a tree and died. Instead, she is now on her way to her own funeral. Next time you get into a car: turn on your blue tooth or hands-free application and/or do not answer any texts. One word you type can lead to the end of one person`s life. So the first part of the close, connects back to the lead (almost finishes the story or provides a lesson) and afterwards, it proposes a course of action (all of these ideas taken from the prep booklet)

LEAD 7h46.Marcus entered his car and had only one thing in mind…getting to school on time. 7h58. Marcus realized he had 2 minutes left before he was late for his class. 7h59. Marcus, feeling stressed, decides to text his friend that he was going to be late. 8h04. Marcus arrived late to class…but early to heaven. Write a close. #BetterLateThanDead Marcus`death was uncalled for. Texting and driving should be avoided regardless of any anxious situation like being tardy for class. If ever caught in Marcus`similar situation, it would be safer to pull to the side of the road to send a message or use the hands free option. Marcus would have been late to class, but at least he would have still been alive.
