Location A Jamestown, Virginia In the first year only 38 out of 120 people survived!

Problems at Jamestown Ships landed at wrong location; area marshy with malaria-causing mosquitoes and polluted water Settlers were sure there was gold; they refused to plant crops or build shelters, instead they dug for gold and silver. Most of the settlers were unaccustomed to any sort of labor, and they simply refused to work… only 38 out of the original 120 settlers survive the first winter… and things only got worse after that!!

Plymouth Massachusetts in 1620, Pilgrims embarked from Holland aboard the Mayflower, intending to land on the mouth of the Hudson River. Storms blew them off-course, and instead they landed at Provincetown, and moved up to what became known as the Plymouth Colony. Early harsh winter and disease killed many of the 102 early settlers In 1621, the Pilgrims entered into a treaty with the Wampanoag Indians, who taught them survival skills Pilgrims celebrated first Thanksgiving with Indians

Location C Roanoke “The Lost Colony”

Roanoke Officially nicknamed– “the Lost Colony”!! 1585- Sir Walter Raleigh leaves colonist and returns to England for supplies…. When he returns, all the settlers are GONE! 90 men, 17 women, 11 children were all left to start a colony… when ships return all settlers have vanished… the only evidence left (beyond some skeletons) was the word “croatoan” carved into a post and “CRO” carved into a tree….??? There were Indians in the area … and many believe that after many deaths the remaining settlers moved to local Indian villages, or were captured by the Indians.
