Earth Day Please find these and additional dates on my website. **April and May book orders are due to me or online by Thursday, April 22nd. You will have the books by the following Monday or Tuesday. Personality of the Week From now on, we will celebrate the Friend of the Week by writing a book about him or her. Each week will have two friends selected. I have changed the name to Personality of the Week since we will be writing what we like about them  Next week’s Personalities of the Week will be Carmen Baldridge and Hayden Blakey. Ask your child what he or she likes about Carmen and Hayden. Have them thinking about what is important to have or look for in a friend. Hello! I hope you all had an absolutely wonderful Easter Break. We all came back to school refreshed and ready to learn. I have noticed a tremendous difference in the maturity level of your child. Everyone is growing into such confident and caring individuals! This week, we began studying the rainforest. You may have found your child in the possession of a tiny drink umbrella  We a bowl of sand with them to represent the canopy of the rainforest. We then took turns spraying water onto the umbrellas to see how the canopy influences the ground (and plants and animals) below. This week, we have learned two of the layers of the rainforest (forest floor and canopy), and next week we will be learning about the understory and the emergent layers. Along with layers of the rainforest, we are learning about animals, plants, and ways to save the trees and conserve energy! Earth Day is coming up, and we are doing everything we can to make this world a better place. We are up to the letter “E” in phonics, and we continue to make great strides with our handwriting and reading skills. Guided Reading is becoming a favorite part of the day, and your child is quickly gaining reading skills every time we meet. Thank you to all who have volunteered as a parent helper during center time. As you know, your help is greatly appreciated, and the children love seeing you each week. You should have received the finalized calendar Thursday. Donations Jars (baby food jar size to spaghetti sauce size. These will be used to make “bug jars” I will need one per child). I need 15 more!
