Do Now Put the layers of the atmosphere in order: (stratosphere, thermosphere, troposphere, mesosphere). In which layer do we live? In which layer is the.
The troposphere is the lowest region in the Earth's (or any planet's) atmosphere. On the Earth, it goes from ground (or water) level up to about 11 miles.

 Gasses make up the air around us  Primary gasses are Nitrogen and Oxygen  Small amounts of many other gasses are present.
Chapter 14 By: Vanessa LaTorre.  Atmosphere - thin envelope/layer of gas around Earth  Gases stretch 375 miles above sea level  Composed of gases known.

The Atmosphere Aim: How are the layers of the atmosphere organized?
Atmosphere. Atmosphere Composition: Gases - nitrogen, oxygen, argon, other gases Compounds – carbon dioxide, water vapor.
The Atmosphere The atmosphere of Earth is a layer of gases surrounding the planet and is retained by Earth's gravity.
Atmosphere. What makes up our atmosphere?  Nitrogen  Oxygen  Argon.
Characteristics of the Atmosphere Chapter Atmosphere  Layer of gases that surrounds Earth  Most abundant gases are Nitrogen and Oxygen  Other.
The Earth’s…. The planet earth has a mixture of gases surrounding it called the atmosphere.
The Atmosphere Chapter Lesson Objectives Identify the major components of Earth’s atmosphere Explain how air pressure changes with altitude Explain.
Troposphere About 75-80% of the atmosphere’s mass Rises to about 20km or about 7.5 miles Air is warmest at the bottom and gets colder as you move.
Layers of the Atmosphere Layer NameAltitude (km) Temperature change with altitude.
Directions: Choose the correct layer of the atmosphere. Identify the layer that the red star marks.

Structure of the Atmosphere

Troposphere Layer closest to Earth Contains most mass Weather and pollution occur here Decrease in temp with altitude Varies in height Tropopause is the most upper part

Stratosphere Above tropopause Made primarily of ozone Gradual increase in temp until you get to the upper most part called the stratopause

Mesosphere No ozone here, so the temp decreases with height Above this is the mesopause

Thermosphere Contains very little mass Layer increases with temp with height Contains the ionosphere

Exosphere Outermost layer of the atmosphere Mainly composed of H and He Above this layer is outer space
