11-4 Meiosis Ms. Ioimo

Meiosis Definition: Process of reduction division in which the number of chromosomes per cell is cut in half through the separation of homologous chromosomes in a diploid cell. Sentence: Meiosis happens in our SEX cells and makes 4 DIFFERENT cells.

Homologous Definition: Term used to refer to chromosomes that each have a corresponding chromosomes from the opposite-sex parent Sentence: Homologous means ___________.

Diploid Definition: Term used to refer to a cell that contains both sets of homologous chromosomes. Sentence: Diploid means ________. It is symbolized as _______.

Haploid Definition: Term used to refer to a cell that contains only a single set of genes. Sentence: Haploid means ____________. It is symbolized as _____.

Crossing Over Definition: process in which homologous chromosomes exchange portions of their chromatids during meiosis. Sentence: Chromosomes ____________ genetic information when crossing over.

Meiosis Mitosis
