What are the 3 main components of health? Physical Social Emotional / Mental

List 5 characteristics of good mental health. Sense of belonging Sense of purpose Positive outlook Self sufficiency Healthy self-esteem

Define perception The act of becoming aware through the senses

What is a stressor? Anything that causes stress

Examples of psychosomatic responses to stress High blood pressure Weakened immune system

What is the difference between positive and negative stress? Positive stress motivates you to work at something Negative stress can harm your mental and physical health

When should someone seek outside help for managing their stress? When the stress is interfering with the ability to carry out normal daily activities

3 stages of body’s response to stress Alarm – brain sends signals from hypothalamus to pituitary gland to adrenal gland to produce adrenaline for “fight or flight” Resistance – body adapts and reacts to stress Fatigue – after long term exposure, the body loses ability to adapt and cannot manage stress effectively
