Example The gentle purr of the two kittens was the last sound I heard.

Articles The adjectives a, an, and the are called articles. Use a before a word that begins with a consonant Use an before a word that begins with a vowel Example: A kitten can develop into a cat with an attitude.

Proper adjectives Word that is formed from a proper noun. A Proper Adjective always begins with a capital letter. Albert Schweitzer was a German doctor who worked in African hospitals. I like Oregon apples the best.

Predicate adjectives Follows a linking verb and modifies the subject of the sentence Ex: The sky is blue.

Demonstrative Adjectives Points out a noun. The words this, that, these, and those are demonstrative adjectives. Ex: This book has more illustrations than that magazine. Always modifies a noun. Demonstrative pronouns replace a noun, rather than modifying it. Ex: That assignment will be difficult. (adjective) Ex: That will be a difficult assignment. (pronoun)

Positive Adjectives Used when no comparison is being made Ex: How old the Inca empire seems!

Comparative Form This form compares two things. Ex: The Aztec empire is older than the Inca Empire.

Superlative Form Compares more than two things. Ex: The Mayan empire is the oldest one in the Americas.
