Motion Vocabulary

A measure of how hard it is to stop an object momentum

Distance traveled divided by the time it takes to travel the distance Speed

Amount of matter in an object Mass

Change in velocity divided by the time it takes for the change to occur Accleration

Speed AND direction of a moving object Velocity

Speed of an object at one instant of time Instantaneous Speed

Total distance divided by the time taken Average Speed

Tendency of an object to resist change in its motion Inertia

What unit is used to measure speed? m/s

Formula for speed S=distance time

When objects collide the total initial momentum and final momentum are equal Law of Conservation of Momentum

Slowing down can also be called this Negative acceleration

SI unit for mass Kilogram (kg)

SI unit for accleration m/s2
