Speed and Velocity

Speed speed is the distance an object moves in a certain amount of time. the SI unit of speed is meters per second (m/s).

Average Speed average speed is computed for the entire duration of a trip, and instantaneous speed is measured at a particular instant. speed = total distance/total time v = d/t

Practice while traveling on vacation, you measure the times and distances traveled. You travel 35 meters in 60 seconds, followed by 50 meters in 90 seconds. What is your average speed?

Instantaneous Speed instantaneous speed, v, is the rate at which an object is moving at a given moment in time. EX: the speed you are at when you look at your speedometer.

Velocity velocity is a description of both speed and direction of motion. velocity is a vector (magnitude and direction) speed is scalar (only magnitude)

Combining Velocities two or more velocities add or subtract by vector direction.
