Question 25

Question 25 Carla rode her bike to her grandmother’s house. The following information describes her trip: For the first 5 minutes, Carla rode fast and then slowed down. She rode for 1 mile For the next 15 minutes, Carla rode at a steady pace until she arrived at her grandmother’s house. She rode 3 miles. For the next 10 minutes, Carla visited her grandmother For the next 5 minutes, Carla rode slowly at first but then began to ride faster. She rode 1 mile. For the last 10 minutes, Carla rode fast. She rode 3 miles at a steady pace The students do not need a calculator to solve this problem. They needed to take the problem part piece by piece and then graph it. The shapes in how to graph it are given to the students. I’ve done my best to make it shown on the graph itself.

Question 25 This is the graph of Carla’s trip. Each line shows how/what she did to get there. She went fast and then slowed down. You start at 0 because that’s where it started and she speeds up and then slows down so it is a slowly curving line. For the next 15 minutes (from 5 until 20 minutes) she rides at a steady pace (straight line) until she rode for 3 additional miles. Carla visited her Grandma for 10 minutes. This means that she stayed put in the same location for 10 minutes. After visiting her grandma, she rode slowly at first and then went fast. It’s like an opposite shape of the time she spent in the first part, where it starts flat and then gets steeper. This goes for 1 mile. Lastly, she goes constantly back home in 10 minutes. Overall, this problem is worth 2 points, with it really focusing on the curved pieces being a reason as to why you wouldn't get 100% correct
