Languages of Europe Today you are going to draw a “tree” that will show the different types of languages that are spoken in Europe. It would be good if you had your colored pencils, markers, or crayons today. (Probably colored pencils or thin markers would be best.) NOTE: on the following slides DON’T WRITE WHAT IS IN RED… just read it and do it.

Draw a tree with a FAT trunk and SEVEN main branches . This is supposed to be my tree! JUST DO YOUR BEST! Draw a tree with a FAT trunk and SEVEN main branches . Leave plenty of room between them so we can make leaves and smaller branches.

Indo- European Language Family Tree In the middle of the trunk of the tree, write “Indo-European Language Family Tree”

ROMANCE Indo- European Language Family Tree On the far left bottom branch, write “ROMANCE”. This has nothing to do with love. These languages came from what language of Rome was… it was LATIN.

Now draw four smaller branches coming off the thick ‘Romance’ branch Now draw four smaller branches coming off the thick ‘Romance’ branch. On the smaller branches write: ITALIAN, FRENCH, SPANISH, PORTUGUESE Indo- European Language Family Tree French Italian ROMANCE Portuguese Spanish
