The Civil War and Reconstruction Last Chapter This Chapter: Next Chapter Ch. 16 and 17 The Civil War and Reconstruction Ch. 15 A Nation Divided + Chapter 16: The Civil War (7th grade) Ch. 18 Americans Move West 1861-1868 Pgs 508-572 Is about: When compromise between the North and South failed, the United States was divided by war. In Chapter 16, you will continue to learn about how the American Civil War tested the strength of the bond between the states. During the Civil War, Americans fought each other on the battlefields and in government. Eventually the nation was reunited, but deep scars remained. In Chapter 17, you will learn about the rebuilding of the South after the war came to an end. Essential Questions for the Chapter: What were the causes of the Civil War? What were the stats of the war? (Review from 7th grade) What was Lincoln’s “Emancipation Proclamation” and what effects did it have on the United States?
