Anselma Awareness Week

The Issue - Who is involved. Why did you choose this issue The Issue - Who is involved? Why did you choose this issue? Where/when does this problem take place? Women and children Domestic violence is a common concern Takes place in privacy Between 6PM and 6AM

Why is this problem worth solving? Women and children feel like they belong and have people to talk to They should feel equal Spread awareness in the community to help women and children will feel comfortable to reach out for help Gives them something to look forward to during the holiday season since that don’t have their whole family

The Facts How often is a women killed by her intimate partner? Answer: Every 6 Days This means there is 60 days a year a woman is killed by their spouse

How many children experience domestic violence in their home every year? Answer: 3,000,000. The population of children in Canada is 6,000,000 so ½ of children witness domestic violence

What percentage of women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime? Answer: 25% (¼) This is approximately 4 million women

The Details When? Occurs from Monday, December 7th, to Monday December 14th We picked these dates to ensure women and their children have something to look forward to for the Christmas holidays Where? Takes place all throughout GRCI in places such as: Lecture Hall, Cafeteria, Front Foyer, Tuck Shop, Storage Space, & Hallways ADD PICTURES

What? Our event incorporates a variety of activities including: Announcements every morning to inform students Awareness Breakfast w/ guest speaker Bake sale to collect money Shopping trip using donated and fundraised money Delivery trip to Anselma House

The Budget List of Materials: Free: Costly: PA system Microphones & tech facilities Tables Bins to collect money Boxes Car Costly: Total: approx. $1510 Plates, napkins, utensils: $100 Food services for Breakfast: $1390 $20 gas money for car

Volunteers & Roles In total we will need approximately 45 volunteers, plus students from the hospitality class. We need: Announcers (2) Poster Designers (5) Donation collectors (8) Set up & clean up crew (15) Shopping trip & delivery crew (15) Bake sale contributors (hospitality class; 25+) We will achieve this by receiving help from: Me2We club Student Exec Offering volunteer hours to students who signed up

In Summary… Anselma Awareness Week is an event worth having at GRCI Abuse involves people surrounding you, whether you are aware of it or not Domestic violence is common in our society We can’t end the issue, but we can limit it
