OPTIONS FOR S5

COURSE COMMITMENT 5 courses eg 5 Highers 4 Highers + 1 Nat 5 2 Highers + 2 Nat 5 + School of Rugby 4 Nat 5 + College course etc

CAN I DO WHAT I LIKE? Yes and No! You choose options to suit where you want to get to (job, college, uni etc) BUT You must meet the course commitment Mrs McDonald has to approve every application to senior school

EXPECTATIONS You are working towards leaving to reach a positive destination You are gathering qualifications and skills which will enhance any application You are expected to pick courses which are meaningful to what you want to do You are expected to commit fully to every course and work hard

ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS You are expected to be a positive role model for younger pupils You are expected to follow school rules in relation to uniform, no smoking etc You are expected to be a responsible member of the school

OPTIONS V CHOICES What’s the difference between options and choices Students make options Computer programme creates choices Hopefully your options become your choices If not, have a sensible reserve subject just in case!

OPTIONS SHEET No choice sheet, therefore no set columns Choose your options from the list available Rank them in order of priority – very important Information goes in to a computer program and it generates the columns Meet the deadline given because there is a lot of input after that

OPTIONS SHEET – WHEN? Very soon! Keep an eye on the school website – a copy will appear there Follow the simple instructions on the options sheet carefully It should be easy to complete

INFORMATION ON OPTIONS Information about all subject options will be available on the school website very soon (no course booklet) – new entries are being added on a daily basis (in no order of priority) Read the details carefully, especially entry requirements Please also read the Introduction from Mr Sinclair

EXTRAS QMU Academies Creative Industries Health and Social Care Hospitality and Tourism Thursday or Friday afternoon Application form and interview

MORE EXTRAS Introduction to Digital Media Software Development (Nat 4/5) Borders College (Tuesday and Thursday afternoon) Application form and interview

EVEN MORE EXTRAS SRU School of Rugby Delivered in school by outside coaches Must have genuine interest in rugby Mr Changleng to have an input to who is accepted

BLENDED LEARNING School plus something outside College? Work Experience? Must be linked to your learner journey

OTHER OPTIONS Do your research Different routes to positive destination – check them out Have a back up plan Having a clear, realistic idea of how you want/need to move forward is a sign of someone ready to be a senior student!

WHAT NEXT? Research what you need to do to get to the next stage beyond school Meet Guidance teacher and discuss way forward Think carefully about options in order of priority Think about extras which may enhance future applications Check out all routes to get to where you want
