Estimation An approximation of a number based on reasonable assumptions NOT A GUESS Based on known information How many gum balls are in the jar? Now you can estimate Is that a guess or an estimation? What if I were to tell you that there are 25 gum balls at this line
Accuracy and Precision Accuracy- how close a measurement is to the true or accepted value. Precision- how close a group of measurements are to each other. Be accurate and precise by using a high-quality and standardized tool. Measure carefully. Repeat measurement getting the same result each time.
Percent Error Percent error calculations are a way to determine how accurate an experimental value is. If you have a high percent error you likely have inaccurate results. Inaccurate results mean you probably did not measure correctly or the tool you used to measure is not working properly. If you have a low percent error you likely have accurate results.

Anomalous data a number in a data set that does not fit in with the rest. If you were measuring the growth of a plant and every week it grows 1-2 cm but then one week you measure a growth of 20 cm. 20 cm would be considered anomalous data. What can explain this change in measurement? Data collector error? Different tool?
