College Success Skills Final Project Name: Fayzah Bushnaq College Success Skills Final Project

Part 1: Understanding Self Preschool Teacher What do they do on a day-to-day basis? They enhance children’s development, teach them, observe and document their progress and determine what is appropriate for the children. Is it indoors or outdoors? The job is both, but mostly indoors. It depends on the teacher’s style and decisions but the bottom line is it can be both. Would they wear a suit or jeans? Most choose to wear jeans. Schools encourage teachers to wear what makes them comfortable so they have the option to wear a suit if they wish, but most wear jeans or loose dresses since they move around a lot. Is it a 9-5 job or does it have irregular hours? It’s a 9-5 job. What skills are important for this job? The top skill that is required is patience. Kindness is also required, children learn from the adult’s actions so you must have a skill of keeping your actions appropriate not just with children but with teachers and others.

Part 1 continued; VARK and MBTI How are those results reflected in this career choice? My result was multimodal RK learning preference. I like to take in more than one strategy which I think is useful because it could help from different directions and that’s something you need to look out for when you’re working with preschoolers. You should be ready for almost anything. Lots of things are unexpected and it’s pretty good to have experience with different learning styles in this case. Does it allow you to work within your dominant learning style? Yes it does allow me. How about your preferences? I wouldn’t mind working with others, it’s healthy for me to hear other people’s opinions and ideas and it can increase communication skills. It can come in handy since in preschool there is indeed a LOT of creativity involved . We can all help each other out. Based on my learning style and preferences this career does seem like a good fit for me.

Part 2: Career and Academic Planning Is a particular degree required? Yes, for assistants in preschool, some will take individuals with an Associate’s degree but most prefer a Bachelor’s degree as well as for the teacher. Was a particular major recommended? Yes, Early Childhood Education. If a Bachelor’s degree or higher is recommended, which schools might you transfer to continue your studies and what major might you consider? I would most likely be transferring to George Mason University to continue studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. What is the benefit to earning your associate’s degree prior to transfer? The benefit is education and experience. If anything should happen I have an Associate’s degree to work somewhere whether it’s a school or a daycare center. One should always be prepared. The benefit is also getting to the next level which is getting a Bachelor’s degree. I am currently placed into Early Childhood Education AAS and it does match my recommended careers.

Part 3: Next Steps
